This Halina 35X Super was my father's camera for as long as I can remember.
It's a very simple viewfinder camera, made in Hong-Kong, by Haking, c.1960, it's marked "Empire Made".
The lens is an Anastigmat 45mm, 1:3,5
The shutter is a four speed leaf type: 1/25, 1/50, 1/100, 1/200 and B.
Combined shutter cocking with film advance; exposure counter on a wheel on top of the advance lever.
Flash pc synch on the side of the lens/shutter barrel. No rangefinder, light meter or any other help, everything manual.
It takes 24 x 36 mm pictures on 35 mm film.
My father had a Gossen Sixon light meter, to establish the exposure and used to guestimate the distance.
He made great shots with this camera and taught me how to take pictures with it, how to use a light meter and the shutter speed/diaphragm play to get the correct exposure.

I cherish this camera for all the great moments it recorded.
In the picture above you can see the outfit that my father always carried along to parties, trips, holidays, everywhere he anticipated deserving to be recorded in a picture.
The following shots were taken by me, with it, in my teen years:

I recently found my old Halina 35x when i was clearing out. It looks slightly different to yours, especially the 2 twist dials on the top. Do you know if this would make it older or younger than your version?
ReplyDeleteI was not sure whether to keep it which was what brought me to your blog as i have not used it in nearly 20 years now. After seeing your post I got very nostalgic and thought I might just keep it but i think i may never use it again as i am not a very keen photographer. Do you know if it is worth anything if i were to sell it anywhere?
@Statis Beatnik:
ReplyDeleteMine is 35x Super, the 35x is an older model.
I paid about 10€ by one like yours.
hello! My grandfather just gave me the Halina 35x Super that we had since the 1970's in the war. I was trying to get the manual but i can't find it! do you have it? can you e-mail it? I just love the pictures that you took with it.
ReplyDeletethanks, Mariana!
Hi Mariana,
DeleteThis is to the Halina 35x, the earlier model, the differences are minute, so I think you will get by with it.
I love that flash unit, I've just picked up one of these camera's from a charity shop and am looking for a flash unit to match and I think that one is perfect, can anyone shed any light on the make/model of the one shown here?
ReplyDeleteCan anyone tell me the make/model of that flash unit? I have to have one for my newly acquired halina.
ReplyDeleteHi Ben,
DeleteThe flash unit is an Ikoblitz, from Zeiss Ikon.
All the best,
Raúl
